We take wellbeing extremely seriously at CVS and have a CVS wellbeing Working Party, who work together to ensure we continuously improve and support the health and wellbeing of all CVS colleagues.
First Aid for Mental Health and Wellbeing Champions
In 2019 we introduced First Aid for Mental Health and Wellbeing Champions across CVS and trained 250 CVS colleagues in this role.
Our Wellbeing Champions raise awareness and promote wellbeing in the workplace, as well as acting as First Aiders for Mental Health by supporting colleagues who may be struggling and signposting appropriate further professional services and information.
All our Wellbeing Champions have undertaken accredited training, which has provided them with the knowledge and understanding of wellbeing and mental health that they need to carry out their role confidently. We’re excited about the positive impact that our Wellbeing Champions can have on the overall wellbeing of our colleagues.
Time to Change Employer Pledge
We are proud to have joined the Time to Change Pledge, committing to change the way we all think and act about mental health in the workplace.
Our CEO, Richard Fairman, signed the Time to Change Pledge at our 2019 company conference and commented: “We are proud to be the first major veterinary employer to sign the Time to Change Pledge. The CVS wellbeing working party have made much progress delivering our plan, which has been formalised through participating in the Time to Change pledge. We recognise that the pressures in our industry are significant and unique, and that there’s more work to do. We remain committed as a company and wellbeing working party to changing the way we all think and act about mental health in the workplace for the better.”
The initiative includes the submission and approval of a plan which supports best practice evidence-based interventions, training and policy, to help our colleagues work in ways that promote positive mental wellbeing.
Employee Assistance Programme
We all have times in our life when we need a little extra support and that is why CVS have teamed up with Health Assured to provide a service that’s there to help employees take care of their emotional health. The Employee Assistance Helpline is a free, confidential telephone support line that is open to all our employees and their family – 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.
We are also a supporter of Vetlife, who we believe offer a brilliant service to the veterinary industry. We offer CVS colleagues the opportunity to donate to Vetlife each month via a payroll giving scheme.
