Alton, Hampshire - Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists, one of the UK’s leading multi-disciplinary referral hospitals, has launched a dedicated new veterinary dentistry service.

This new offering will provide advanced oral and maxillofacial treatments for pets across the region, led by Charlie Tewson BVetMed MRCVS GPCert (SADen&OS), a residency-trained dentistry clinician.

Charlie is among fewer than 15 specialist or residency-trained veterinary dentists in the UK, making this service a unique and highly valuable addition for veterinary professionals seeking referral options for complex dental and oral cases.

The new service at Lumbry Park covers the full spectrum of veterinary dentistry and oral surgery, including:

  • Endodontics - Root canal therapy for fractured or discoloured teeth.
  • Restorative dentistry - Crown fabrication and placement, caries restorations.
  • Orthodontics - Correction of malocclusions.
  • Periodontal therapy - Advanced tooth-saving procedures for severe periodontal disease.
  • Oral surgery - Excision and diagnosis of oral masses and cysts, mandibulectomies and maxillectomies.
  • Trauma management - Repair of mandibular and maxillary fractures.
  • Congenital conditions - Treatment of cleft palates and enamel defects.
  • Complex extractions - Including full-mouth extractions for feline chronic gingivostomatitis or canine chronic ulcerative stomatitis.

This breadth of expertise ensures that pets with both routine and highly complex oral health needs can now access specialist-level care in the South of England.

Many referred patients with complex comorbidities also suffer from dental disease, which can significantly impact their overall health and recovery. By introducing this service, Lumbry Park can now also provide integrated, multidisciplinary care, ensuring safer anaesthesia and better outcomes for patients with concurrent medical conditions.

Charlie will support internal teams at Lumbry Park, assisting colleagues in managing dental disease in patients referred for other specialist treatments. This collaborative approach enhances patient care and streamlines treatment planning for referring practices.

While Charlie currently leads the dentistry team solo, his specialist skills allow him to manage even the most challenging cases with precision and care.
