New Veterinary Nurse Journal Club created by CVS
1 July 2025
CVS has created a new Nurse Journal Club so that its colleagues can stay ahead in veterinary care.
Meeting two-monthly, the club will enable members to review the latest veterinary research with fellow nursing colleagues who are passionate about taking the profession forward.
Already attracting over 120 nurse sign-ups, members will meet for an hour every other month to engage with a topic presented by colleagues and discuss relevant research articles, audits and literature reviews.
The sessions will aim to encourage collaboration amongst colleagues and equip nurses with the skills to critically appraise and apply evidence to elevate standards of care and lead in evidenced-based practice.
Michelle Farrow, RVN and Small Animal Research Assistant at CVS who organises and chairs the Nurse Journal Club, said:
"Many of our nurses across the country engage with evidence-based practice more than they realise - whether it’s reviewing new protocols, reflecting on clinical outcomes, or discussing cases with colleagues. But doing this alone can feel overwhelming, especially with the volume of new research out there.
“Our new Veterinary Nurse Journal Club is the perfect space for our nurses to discuss cutting-edge articles, share insights and build a community of like-minded individuals dedicated to advancing their knowledge and skills.
“It’s a space for peer-to-peer support - where nurses can grow in confidence, ask questions and learn together in a welcoming environment. By collaborating, we not only deepen our understanding but also organically drive improvements in patient care.”
The next Nurse Journal Club theme will be on Peri-operative patient warming: prevention is better than cure. In this session newly qualified RVN, Elicia Thompson, will present her audit on patient warming and we will discuss the relevant evidence. The session will be run in July.
The Nurse Journal Club is chaired by RVN and Small Animal Research Assistant Michelle Farrow and supported by CVS Director of Research Imogen Schofield.
