Our new Graduate Programme is an industry leading scheme which is well respected by universities providing veterinary degrees.
We are also dedicated to supporting our staff in maximising their own potential and to develop their careers with the Company. To enable this, we have a process to identify, develop and support our future leaders via our talent development programmes – one of which is our innovative Aspirational Leadership Programme.
Our training team offer a range of workshops and self-directed learning material to support induction and in role development. We also use technology through our own virtual learning environment to support the day to day learning and up skilling of our practice and regionally based teams.

Clinical Development remains a core aspect of our training. All our vets and nurses are provided with a wide range of training and development opportunities, through in-house expertise and external courses. This includes sponsoring further qualifications for vets such as certificates including the RCVS CertAVP and European Diplomas.
“We recognise the importance of learning & development to support employees maximising their potential. We are passionate about CPD and we have a number of solutions which provide essential training for all across the business.”
Helen Wiseman, Director of HR & Training
A clinical internship is the traditional starting point for those vets considering postgraduate training towards specialist status. The specialist colleges expect a one-year internship prior to entry in to a residency training programme. Internships also provide a very good clinical grounding for recent graduates who then choose not to follow specialist training but may return to general practice. An internship will typically provide experience in anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, surgery and emergency medicine. Interns support our specialist referral services and, in return, are mentored by our specialist staff and should expect to work on a clinical research project/publication in addition to their routine clinical duties.
CVS offers clinical internships at several sites including Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists (Hampshire), ChesterGates Veterinary Specialists (Cheshire) and Grove Referrals (Norfolk). Those interested in internships should check the CVS Clinical Vacancies pages or contact the clinics listed directly.
Management and Leadership Development
Together with Clinical Development opportunities we also offer our employees the opportunity to participate in a number of management and leadership programmes.
Our bespoke management development programme, LEAP, is designed for newly promoted managers or individuals who have not attended any formal management training.
Employees looking to develop further are encouraged to attend our Aspirational Leadership Programme (ALP) – our industry leading development programme for veterinary professionals designed to identify and develop our future leaders.
